Red Bull Midsummer LA

What we built
Red Bull's Midsummer activation landed in Los Angeles with one simple ask: turn a hotel courtyard into a working tattoo lounge that felt like a proper part of the festival, not a brand-sponsored sideshow. Our crew of two artists ran a continuous real tattoo station across the day while a third chair offered Jagua flash for guests who wanted the experience without the commitment.
How the day ran
Demand hit capacity by mid-afternoon, so we paused new walk-ups for the real tattoo station while the flash line kept moving. By close, the artists had served over a hundred guests across both stations — the Jagua side moved at roughly twice the rate of the real station, which tracked with our pre-event estimates.
What worked
The biggest takeaway for any team planning something similar: keep the waitlist open for at least the first hour of tattooing, then let it close naturally when the line catches up.
Across the day we ran flash designs in numbered sets, and a handful of designs clearly outperformed the rest — the disco ball piece alone accounted for more than a third of all real tattoo requests.
Memorable moment
We also picked up a milestone moment we'll keep talking about: one of our guests got her first real tattoo at the age of 70, which is exactly the kind of moment this format was built for.
